At 6.30am we left
with our guardienne on our rope as she had to go home to Interlaken.
She didn't like flying in helicopters and so had asked if she could
go down the Lungletscher to Fafleralp with us.
  It
was an interesting walk down as we started in fairly soft snow and
then got to the dry glacier where we had to work out our way down,
passing some remains of a crashed helicopter on the way. None of
this phased our guest, who was quite used to all this.
  We
approached Fafleralp and saw the bus driving away, 10 minutes before
our arrival. Anyway, it gave us time to have a bite to eat and a
drink before the next bus left, an hour later. We got off the bus
at Goppenstein and walked to the station where our ticket to Oberwald,
via Brig, cost CHF31.40 each. After a short wait at Oberwald a bus
appeared that would take us back to Grimsel for CHF13.40. While
Bill and I had a coffee, Nigel hitched a lift along the single track
road to where the car was parked, picking us up and bringing to
a conclusion a great trip.
